The original owner who started the restaurant as Baja has returned and the reincarnation is Sunset Grill. It is an owner chef restaurant. My husband and I invited another couple to join us there. With this being Purdue's graduation Saturday, we were hoping we could get a table. As it turns out, this place is a well-kept secret, maybe too well kept. It is located at 1904 US 52 W, well off the beaten path of fine dining (tablecloths, candles and a bud vase with a rose), in West Lafayette. We had been to the original and liked it very much. The restaurant has been renovated with a bar and open dining area. I had the Atlantic salmon with polenta and asparagus. The salmon's sauce was fragrant, delicate, light and tasty on a perfectly sautéed filet; the polenta triangle and grilled fresh asparagus were great accompaniments. The Malbec was a fine choice to go with the salmon, holding its own and intensifying the levels of flavor on the palate. My husband and friends had the Alfredo, which came with about a half dozen shrimp. They liked it very much and found the sauce to be light, unlike some that are so heavy with flour thickening. We could not identify what the chef used to achieve this, but it was a very lovely sauce. For dessert we shared an apple tart with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, garnished with a handsomely sliced strawberry. Our server, Andy told us that the chef makes the pastry and uses a combination of green and red apples for the tart. The spices were well-done, allowing the apple to take charge of the experience. Our server was very attentive and our food was ready in short order. I would say this restaurant compares favorably with Maza, another of West Lafayette's secrets, in quality of food, service, and pricing. The menus are very different though. Your dinner is specially prepared for you with fresh ingredients. The servings are generous and one of our party took home a portion of the Alfredo. If you want a quietly elegant dinner, this is your restaurant.

I am always greeted with a smile and kind words. The menu is a nice variety. Familiar enough to be comfortable and different enough to be adventurous. Great for a lunch salad or a nice evening meal. Waiters are attentive. Atmosphere is relaxing.

Went for lunch and ordered the cheap tacos and a chalupa or something. Everything tasted good. Very cheap. The menu seemed a little haphazard and the 'buffet' was skimpy, but for the price I paid this place was great. edit: went back and the menu changed. Looked more streamlined, but the cheap chalupa I liked the last time was way more expensive.

Went to this place expecting a "California Grill" type of high end restaurant, got there and found a very low key Mexican restaurant. Despite the confusion over the cuisine, we stayed and made the most of it. Pretty wide variety of mostly Tex-Mex offerings, done nicely. We are from near San Antonio and, while I could name ten better places back home, I was impressed with the quality of the food. Order the Tampiqueno, a combo of beef enchiladas and a carne asada. It was excellent. As Indiana goes, pretty authentic Tex-Mex.

Went for Mothers Day. Big mistake. They weren't that busy but it took forever for someone to even acknowledge we were waiting to be seated. I asked for a merlot to drink and was told they would bring me a wine menu. After asking three more times for the wine menu I was told there was no wine menu. It took a long time to place our order and a very long time to finally get our food. My wife said her steak tasted like shoe leather and my daughter took one bite of her burrito and said she hated it. After a long wait we finally received our check with a tip already added. needless to say I was upset. I told the server the service was awful and the food even worse and I was not leaving a tip. I crossed out the tip and wrote the total in myself. Obviously we did not have a good experience and I felt very foolish for bringing my family here on mothers day I won't make the same mistake again

I went here with my two kids. The place was empty, and the waiter was....weird. It could have so easily been an ok place but it all just felt gross with a bad waiter.

Waiter was very accommodating and polite. Taco tasted very good and the exotic salad good tasting healthy choice. The atmosphere surprising.

Had the most disorganized (but entertaining) breakfast ever here a few weeks ago. This restaurant is having an identity crisis. It recently went from being a Mediterranean restaurant to being a Mexican restaurant. The food is still good, but its out of the way and service is scattered.
